Apple to unveil fifth generation iPad in March: Report
If rumour mills on the internet are to be believed, then Apple’s fifth generation iPad will launch in March 2013. The rumour comes from a Japanese blog Macotakara which says that a thinner, lighter version of the iPad with a 9.7-inch display is due in March 2013. The blog says, “According to my inside source, iPad (5th) may be released in March, 2013. Source told that, design of this new iPad will be like iPad mini in detail, and be thinner and lightweight. (The expectation comes to have a small 4mm in height, 17mm in width, depth 2mm).”
The report also says that the fifth generation iPad will borrow design elements from the iPad Mini. The device is expected to have the same 9.7-inch Retina Display found on the fourth generation iPad but is expected to be slimmer measuring at 4 mm in height, 17 mm in width, and 2 mm in depth. These dimensions seem a bit unrealistic considering that the current iPad is 241.2 mm by 185.7 mm by 9.4 mm.
The rumoured launch of the fifth generation iPad will be 11 months after the third generation iPad and about 5 months after the fourth generation iPad.
Apple has maintained the lead as the best premium tablet to purchase but the competition has slowly started catching up. We have seen the Nexus 10 launch and boast of some seriously impressive specs. The Nexus 10 is powered by a Samsung Exynos 5250 dual-core 1.7 GHz processor along with a Mali T640 GPU. There is also 2 whole gigabytes of RAM, NFC and stereo speakers, but the real kicker lies in the display. The Nexus 10 has a native resolution of 2560x1600, pegging its pixel density at a whopping 300 ppi (the iPad 4's display is 264 ppi). You can read more about the Nexus 10 here.
The third as well as the fourth generation iPad tablets are available in India. You can read our review of the third generation iPad here and our fourth gen iPad review here.
