Samsung is to issue an extended battery option for the Samsung Galaxy S3smartphone that adds 900mAh capacity compared to the original 2100mAh one shipped with the phone.
The 3000mAh battery for the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a new back cover for the phone, to house the slightly larger sized battery, and includes a cut-out hole for the camera. This cover also adds an NFC (near field communication) chip. This will work with the Samsung TecTiles app and enables features for making small transactions such contactless payments.
Although it will make the phone slightly heavier, the new battery may help any users who find that the original battery is not powerful enough to last a full day on one charge. It’s also an alternative to accessories such as the £80 Samsung Galaxy S3 Mophie Juice Pack, which is a combined extra battery and case.
Samsung’s new battery is now available to pre-order in the UK, and it costs a penny under £40, though according to Android Authority it will not be shipping to customers until February 2013.
